Il en \u00e9tait anim\u00e9 et parti en voyages \u00e0 de nombreuses reprises dans les pays traditionnellement orthodoxe des Balkans (Yougoslavie, Roumanie, Bulgarie, Gr\u00e8ce, Turquie, Russie), o\u00f9 il put \u00e9tablir des contacts avec les \u00e9v\u00eaques, th\u00e9ologiens et moines et moniales, dont le grand Patriarche Ath\u00e9nagoras de Constantinople. Dans les ann\u00e9es 60 \u2013 pendant la p\u00e9riode du Concile Vatican II \u2013 il fonda \u00e0 Gand une association sous le nom \u2018<em>Ap\u00f4tre Andr\u00e9 \u2013 contacts avec l\u2019Orthodoxie<\/em>\u2019 qui amena en Flandres de grandes figures de l\u2019Eglise Orthodoxe afin d&#8217;initier un publique divers dans la richesse de la spiritualit\u00e9 orthodoxe. En 1972 il devient le fondateur de la paroisse orthodoxe du Saint Ap\u00f4tre Andr\u00e9 \u00e0 Gand. Depuis cette paroisse et sous son impulsion l\u2019Orthodoxie s\u2019est r\u00e9pandue plus loin en r\u00e9gion Flamande, raison pour laquelle il est vu comme un pionnier de l\u2019Eglise orthodoxe en Flandres. En 1974 il est ordonn\u00e9 diacre \u00e0 Paris et un an plus tard pr\u00eatre par l\u2019Archev\u00eaque Georges de Syracuse (Patriarcat Oecum\u00e9nique). Par ses nombreux contacts il put contribuer efficacement \u00e0 l\u2019obtention de\u00a0<strong>la reconnaissance officielle de l\u2019Eglise orthodoxe<\/strong>\u00a0dans notre pays. Il faisait partie de l\u2019Archev\u00each\u00e9 Orthodoxe du Benelux (Patriarcat Oecum\u00e9nique), M\u00e9tropole qui depuis 2013 est conduit par son fils, le M\u00e9tropolite Ath\u00e9nagoras, chef du culte orthodoxe dans notre pays.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">Le 2 mai 2016 il c\u00e9l\u00e9bra avec son \u00e9pouse Marie-Th\u00e9r\u00e8se Janssens son 63i\u00e8me anniversaire de mariage. Il \u00e9tait le p\u00e8re de quatre enfants, grand p\u00e8re de dix petits-enfants et de trois arri\u00e8re-petits-enfants. En plus de son fils M\u00e9tropolite, il y a aussi son autre fils (Bernard Peckstadt, paroisse de Bruges) et son beau-fils (Dominique Verbeke, paroisse de Gand) qui sont tous deux pr\u00eatres orthodoxes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><strong>Sur le plan Oecum\u00e9nique<\/strong>\u00a0il fut pendant de nombreuses ann\u00e9es membre du\u00a0<em>Conseil inter eccl\u00e9sial \u00e0 Gand<\/em>, du\u00a0<em>groupe d\u2019\u00e9tudes et de travail \u0152cum\u00e9nique de Flandre occidentale<\/em>\u00a0et de\u00a0<em>l\u2019organe de consultation des Eglises chr\u00e9tiennes en Belgique<\/em>, l\u2019instance \u0153cum\u00e9nique la plus \u00e9lev\u00e9e en Belgique. Au niveau europ\u00e9en il \u00e9tait Co-inspirateur des nombreux congr\u00e8s orthodoxes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">De 1950 \u00e0 1998 il fut un\u00a0<strong>avocat actif au barreau de Gand<\/strong>, dont pendant 9 ans membre du Conseil de l\u2019Ordre et pendant 16 ans pr\u00e9sident du bureau Pro-Deo, le service d\u2019aide juridique. D\u2019autre part il fut pendant plus de 35 ans juge de paix suppl\u00e9ant et professeur pour les mati\u00e8res juridiques dans l\u2019enseignement sup\u00e9rieur des infirmiers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">Pour finir, l\u2019archipr\u00eatre Ignace Peckstadt \u00e9tait un orateur appr\u00e9ci\u00e9. Il \u00e9tait invit\u00e9 dans les milieux les plus divers pour parler des aspects historiques et spirituels du christianisme orthodoxe. D\u2019autre part il est l\u2019auteur de deux livres : &#8220;<em>La force de la pr\u00e9sence de Dieu. Sagesse de la spiritualit\u00e9 orthodoxe&#8221; (2001) Edition Averbode 215p. et Une fen\u00eatre ouverte sur l&#8217;Eglise Orthodoxe&#8221; (2005), Edition Averbode, 285p<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">Les fun\u00e9railles de Ignace Peckstadt a lieu le samedi 14 mai 2016 \u00e0 11 heures dans l&#8217;\u00e9glise du b\u00e9guinage gantois de Sainte Elisabeth, Sophie van Akenstraat (pr\u00e8s du Rabot).
