Met luister en plechtstatigheid werd vandaag in de Eerbiedwaardige Patriarchale Kerk van de Heilige Georgios in de Fanar, door Oecumenisch Patriarch Bartholomeos en [andere] Bisschoppen aan de tot heden Aartssecretaris van de Heilige Synode Bartholomeos de wijding toegediend tot nieuwe Metropoliet van Smyrna [Izmir].<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

De Metropolieten Mel\u00edton van Filadelf\u00eda, Dim\u00edtrios van Sebaste, Panteleimon van V\u00e9ria, N\u00e1oussa en Kampan\u00eda, Emmanou\u00edl van Frankrijk, Benedictos van Filadelf\u00eda (van het Patriarchaat van Jeruzalem), Ign\u00e1tios van Dimitri\u00e1da [V\u00f3los], Athenagoras van Belgi\u00eb, Andr\u00e9as van Arkaloch\u00f3rion, Amfil\u00f3chios van K\u00edssamos en Selinos, en Io\u00e1nnis van Lagad\u00e1, Liti en Rent\u00edna dienden met hem mee.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Er waren Bisschoppen in gebed verenigd aanwezig uit de Stad en het buitenland, evenals vice-eerste minister T\u00e9rens Kou\u00edk: vertegenwoordiger de Griekse regering, Gi\u00f3rgios Kalantz\u00eds: de Secretaris-Generaal voor Erediensten en vriend van de nieuwe Metropoliet, Ambassadeur Ev\u00e1ngelos S\u00e9keris: Consul-Generaal van Griekenland in onze Stad, Argyr\u00f3 Papo\u00falia: Consul-Generaal van Griekenland in Smyrna, de Consul-Generaal van Oekra\u00efne in de Stad, Dan\u00e1e Vasil\u00e1ki: de Consul van Griekenland in de Stad, archonten-ambtsdragers, Athonitische vaders, Ger\u00f3ntissa Iak\u00f3vi: de Abdis van het Heilig Johannes de Voorloperklooster te Akritoch\u00f3ri, de broer van de Metropoliet van Smyrna: Spyros Samar\u00e1s en zijn gezin, Konstant\u00ednos Zorb\u00e1s: de Directeur van de Orthodoxe Academie van Kreta, de voorzitter van het Thuis van N\u00e9a Sm\u00fdrni, de Burgemeester van N\u00e1oussa, en vele geestelijken en bedevaarders uit de Stad, uit Griekenland en het buitenland, die als bedevaarders voor de wijding naar de Fanar waren gekomen.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Bij zijn toespraak haalde Zijne Alheiligheid de vele charisma’s aan die de persoon van de Metropoliet van Smyrna sieren, en de werklust, ijver, bescheidenheid, waarmee hij de Moederkerk veertien jaar diende. Hij sprak verder met ontroerende woorden over de invulling van het veelbeproefde en martelaar-Diocees van Smyrna na een stilte van 94 jaar, en prees de veelbetekenende en degelijke pastorale zorg van Bisschop-elect K\u00fdrillos van Erythr\u00e1 [Ild\u0131r], die tot voor kort priester van Smyrna was. Hij drong er sterk op aan dat de nieuwe Metropoliet dicht bij zijn kudde zou verblijven, en dat hij dezelfde zorg en dezelfde liefde zou betonen, vooral samen met hulpbisschop-elect van Erythr\u00e1.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Metropoliet Bartholomeos van Smyrna dankte in zijn ontroerende toespraak de Oecumenische Patriarch omdat hij aandrong om te luisteren naar de gepijnigde stemmen van de Geschiedenis, die opwellen uit de Ionische aarde van zijn nieuwe vaderland, en hem zullen bijstaan bij zijn pastoraal werk. Hij verwees met dezelfde erkenning naar de persoon van zijn geestelijke vader, Metropoliet Dim\u00edtrios van Sebaste, aan wie hij zijn toewijding en zijn oprechte liefde en zijn erkentelijkheid betuigde wegens zijn geestelijke en andere zorg en begeleiding.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In ontroerende bewoordingen herdacht hij zijn ouders naar het vlees, Nik\u00f3laos en El\u00e9ni. Hij gaf het doorslaggevend belang toe van zijn ontmoeting met Metropoliet Panteleimon van V\u00e9ria, Hi\u00ebrarch van de Oecumenische Troon in Griekenland, in wiens Diocees hij diende, en door wie hij oprechte liefde leerde voor het Oecumenisch Patriarchaat. Hij bedankte de Griekse Regering voor de vertegenwoordiging bij de invulling van nog een Aartsbisdom van de Romiosini [Oost-Romeinse Rijk], de Semi-Autonome Kerk van Kreta voor het besluit tot een offici\u00eble afvaardiging naar de wijding, evenals de Metropolieten, inzonderheid Metropoliet Meliton van Filadelf\u00eda, van wie hij samen met zijn geestelijke vader de ervaring van de Fanar had geleerd.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Op het einde van de Goddelijke Liturgie ontving de nieuwe Metropoliet de mijter en herdersstaf uit de handen van de Oecumenische Patriarch, besteeg hij de Patriarchale Troon, zegende hij de menigte, deelde hij op het einde het ant\u00eddoron uit, en ontving hij de felicitaties en gelukwensen van zijn familieleden.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

De intronisatie van de nieuwe herder wordt verwacht op 24 september te Smyrna, en de nieuwe Bisschop-elect K\u00fdrillos van Erythr\u00e1, hulpbisschop van Oecumenisch Patriarch Bartholomeos op 25 september, ook te Smyrna.<\/span>
