Dimitrios in Maasmechelen (Belgisch Limburg) vierde haar jaarlijkse patroonfeest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>De parochie van Maasmechelen is een van de oudste parochies van het Aartsbisdom van Belgi\u00eb en werd gesticht in 1964, toen Griekse emigranten aankwamen om in de regio te werken. Dit was het werk van toenmalig Bisschoppelijk Vicaris voor Belgi\u00eb van het Aartsbisdom van Frankrijk (waartoe Belgi\u00eb behoorde tot 1969) en op vandaag voormalig Metropoliet Panteleimon van Belgi\u00eb, die destijds parochies oprichtte om te voldoen aan de noden van de gelovigen die Griekenland ontvluchtten op zoek naar een betere toekomst. Nu zijn deze parochies referentiepunten voor de tweede en derde generatie kinderen van immigranten, die volledig geassimileerd zijn in de Belgische realiteit, maar toch proberen om de vroomheid en tradities van hun ouders intact te houden.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>Zijne Eminentie Metropoliet Athenagoras van Belgi\u00eb en Exarch van Nederland en Luxemburg ging voor in de Pontificale Goddelijke Liturgie, omringd door leden van zijn clerus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>De homilie werd gehouden door de prediker van het Aartsbisdom Archimandriet Joachim Archontos die een fragment van de perikoop van het Evangelie van de dag in verband bracht met het leven en werk van de Heilige Grootmartelaar Dimitrios, die vervolgd en gemarteld werd omwille van zijn liefde voor Christus. Op vandaag, eeuwen na zijn martelaarschap, blijft men de heilige eren voor van de glorie en aanbidding van de Heer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>E\u00e9nmaal de liturgie be\u00ebindigd dankte Metropoliet Athenagoras de rector van de parochie, v. Athanasius Karatzogiannis voor het uitstekende beheer van zijn parochie en de voorbereiding van het parochiefeest, en de leden van de clerus en de gelovigen die samen gekomen waren om de grote beschermer van de parochie van H.
