Dit kerkgebouw wordt vanaf 3 september 2016 de zetel van de Orthodoxe Parochie van de Heilige Katerina, die behoort tot het Orthodox Aartsbisdom van Belgi\u00eb en Exarchaat van Nederland en Luxemburg (Oecumenisch Patriarchaat van Constantinopel). Onder het Aartsbisdom ressorteren 25 parochies in Belgi\u00eb, 9 in Nederland en 2 in Luxemburg. Het Aartsbisdom staat onder leiding van Mgr. Athenagoras Peckstadt, die Metropoliet is van Belgi\u00eb en Exarch van Nederland en Luxemburg en voorzitter van de Orthodoxe Bisschoppenconferentie van de Benelux. Het Aartsbisdom telt voornamelijk Griekse gelovigen, maar staat ongetwijfeld open voor alle orthodox christenen, van welke origine of taal ook!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><span lang=\"el\" xml:lang=\"el\">Het Oecumenisch Patriarchaat van Contantinopel is het eerste in de reeks van orthodoxe patriarchaten en autokefale en autonome Kerken. Het staat onder leiding van Patriarch Bartholomeos I, die onlangs nog in Kreta de Grote Panorthodoxe Synode voorzat. Wereldwijd telt de Orthodoxe Kerk 300 miljoen gelovigen.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><span lang=\"el\" xml:lang=\"el\">Zijne Eminentie Metropoliet Athenagoras geeft aan: \u201c<em>Met de verwerving van de Zaankerk voorzien we in de groeiende pastorale behoeften van onze gelovigen. Onder onze gelovigen tellen we veel nieuwkomers, waaronder tal van Griekse studenten. Onze Parochie van de Heilige Katerina dient gezien te worden als de verlenging van de historische Parochie van de Heilige Katerina die door Griekse kooplieden werd opgericht in het jaar 1750. We zijn trots en verheugd dat we in Zaandam deze historische kerk hebben kunnen verwerven. Zaandam is een mooie plaats en biedt goede voorzieningen. We hechten zeer aan harmonieuze verstandhoudingen en nodigen eenieder die ge\u00efnteresseerd is, graag uit om op 3 september a.s. naar de plechtige ingebruikname van de Zaankerk te komen. Eind vorig jaar hebben we reeds een priester gewijd voor deze Parochie. Hij werd geboren in Moldavi\u00eb, maar heeft Griekse roots en woont en werkt sinds een paar jaren in Nederland. We wensen de Zaankerk vanzelfsprekend graag te behouden voor Zaandam en haar inwoners. Het orgel is zeer indrukwekkend.
