De Orthodoxe Bisschoppenconferentie van de Benelux (OBB-CEOB) kwam op woensdag 8 juni 2016 voor de elfde maal te Brussel, op de zetel van het Heilig Aartsbisdom Belgi\u00eb, Charbolaan 71, samen onder voorzitterschap van Zijne Eminentie Metropoliet Athenagoras van Belgi\u00eb, Exarch van Nederland en Luxemburg (Oecumenisch Patriarchaat). Verder waren Hunne Excellenties Aartsbisschop Simon (Patriarchaat van Moskou), Bisschop Dositeoz (Patriarchaat van Georgi\u00eb), Aartsbisschop Michail (Russisch-orthodoxe Kerk in het Buitenland – Patriarchaat van Moskou), en Bisschop Petros van Troas (hulpbisschop van het Heilig Aartsbisdom Belgi\u00eb, Exarchaat van Nederland – Oecumenisch Patriarchaat) aanwezig.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

De bisschoppen werden op de hoogte gebracht van de reacties en verklaringen van de lokale Orthodoxe Kerken ten gevolge van de tragische gebeurtenissen op 22 maart te Brussel, die vele mensen het leven ontnamen [waaronder de Grieks-orthodoxe Congolese Belg Yves Ciyombo Cibuabua, zaliger gedachtenis]. Vervolgens werden ze op de hoogte gebracht van de interreligieuze bijeenkomsten en die tussen de leiders van de geloofsgemeenschappen en de Belgische regeringsleden. Eens te meer veroordeelden de Hi\u00ebrarchen de daden van geweld en religieus fanatisme als in tegenstrijd met de christelijke leer en menselijke waardigheid. Ze bespraken de oorzaken van die terreurdaden, en hoe de Orthodoxe Kerk, door haar pastoraal werk, de gelovigen kan helpen om hun geloof dieper te beleven zonder toe te geven aan de angst.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

De bisschoppen bekeken vervolgens de voorbereiding en recente ontwikkelingen rond het Heilig en Groot Panorthodox Concilie dat binnen slechts luttele dagen haar werking zal aanvangen. Ze bekeken ook het vooruitzicht, de verwachting, maar ook de problemen die bij die grote gebeurtenis moeten worden opgelost. De bisschoppen vernamen met spijt de door bepaalde lokale Orthodoxe Kerken genomen beslissing om niet aan het Groot Concilie deel te nemen. Tegelijk hebben allen hun wens uitgesproken dat het Concilie zou plaatsvinden, naar de hedendaagse wereld een sterke boodschap van eenheid in geloof, hoop en liefde zou uitsturen, en dat het de Orthodoxe Kerk zou sterken in haar heilswerk en heiliging van de wereld. Op het einde van de maand mei laatstleden werden de vespers gevierd in de Orthodoxe Heilige Aartsengelenkathedraal te Brussel, gevolgd door een lezing, om het belang van het Heilig en Groot Panorthodox Concilie te benadrukken.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

De bisschoppen werden op de hoogte gebracht van de werking van de Orthodoxe Kerk in Belgi\u00eb en in Nederland. Vervolgens werden ze op de hoogte gebracht van de indringing van een beperkte schismatieke groep van het zogenaamd “patriarchaat van Kiev” in Nederland.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Deze elfde bijeenkomst van de Orthodoxe Bisschoppenconferentie van de Benelux sloot haar werking af met de uitwisseling van nuttige informatie aangaande de activiteiten van de orthodoxe parochies in de drie landen van de Benelux.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Deze Bisschoppenconferentie werd opgericht ingevolge de beslissing van de 4e Panorthodoxe Preconciliaire Conferentie, bijeengekomen te Chamb\u00e9sy (Gen\u00e8ve) in juni 2009.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
