In naam van de Heilige Drie-eenheid en met de zegen en begeleiding van onze Kerken, kwam de Internationale Commissie voor Anglicaans-Orthodoxe Theologische Dialoog van 10 tot 17 oktober 2019 bijeen in Canterbury, Engeland, en onderzocht kwesties in verband met ecologie en ecologische levenskwesties. De bijeenkomst werd namens de Anglicaanse Gemeenschap georganiseerd door Eerwaarde Robert Willis, hoofd van de Christ Cathedral in Canterbury. De Commissie wil de rector van de kathedraal bedanken voor de genereuze en warme gastvrijheid.<\/p>\n

Zoals altijd werden de werkzaamheden van de Commissie onderbouwd met dagelijks gebed en workshops. De Commissie woonde zondag de Liturgie in de Anglicaanse kathedraal in Canterbury bij en vierde de Goddelijke Eucharistie in de orthodoxe parochie van Aartsengel Michael in de naburige stad Margate, onder leiding van Zijne Eminentie Metropoliet van Belgi\u00eb, de orthodoxe medevoorzitter. Bij deze gelegenheid bracht Zijne Eminentie Aartsbisschop Nikitas van Thyateira en Groot-Brittanni\u00eb zijn eerste bezoek aan de parochie en wenste de leden van de Commissie succes. Daarna werd een rijke maaltijd gepresenteerd, met de steun van de parochiegemeenschap en archimandriet Vissarion Kokliotis.<\/p>\n

Tijdens het verblijf werden bezoeken gebracht aan historische locaties in de omgeving, waaronder: het klooster van de heilige Augustinus, de oude kerk van de H. Martinus, het archief en de bibliotheek van de kathedraal en het Eastbridge Hospital. Een van de mooiste momenten van de ontmoeting was de nachtelijke bedevaart van de deelnemers aan de kathedraal, bij kaarslicht, onder leiding van het hoofd van de kerk, die eindigde op de plaats van het martelaarschap van de H. Thomas Becket.<\/p>\n

De Commissie voltooide haar werkzaamheden op het gebied van milieu en ecologie in overeenstemming met de beginselen die zijn uiteengezet in de gezamenlijke verklaring van Buffalo getiteld “Naar het beeld en de gelijkenis van God: een veelbelovende antropologie”: (Stewards of Creation – A Hope-Filled Anthropology[1]<\/span><\/a>, Buffalo 2015). De volgende verklaring getiteld “Stewards of Creation – A Hope-Filled Ecology” is klaar en zal worden vrijgegeven als deel van een reeks publicaties.<\/p>\n

Verdere aandacht werd besteed aan de kwestie van het einde van het menselijk leven, met de voorlopige titel “Dying in Peace: A Christian Approach to Life and Death[2]<\/span><\/a>“. De werkzaamheden van de Commissie over dit onderwerp zullen worden ondernomen tijdens haar volgende vergadering in oktober 2020, met de Kerk van Griekenland als gastheer.<\/p>\n
