Zijne Eminentie Metropoliet Athenagoras van Belgi\u00eb en Exarch van Nederland en Luxemburg heeft op dinsdag 7 december 2021 de Goddelijke Liturgie bijgewoond in de historische kerk van de Heilige Nikolaas in Elsene (Brussel) voor het feest van de Heilige Catherina en de 70<\/span>e<\/span> verjaardag van Zijne Excellentie Aartsbisschop Simon, hi\u00ebrarch van het Patriarchaat van Moskou in Belgi\u00eb. Metropoliet Athenagoras was vergezeld van zijn hulpbisschop, Zijne Excellentie Bisschop Joachim van Apollonia, en de vicaris generaal van het Aartsbisdom, Archimandriet Philadelphos Kafalis.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

De Goddelijke Liturgie werd voorgegaan door Aartsbisschop Simon in concelebratie met 6 priesters en een diaken. Onder de aanwezigen merkte men deze op van Zijne Excellentie de Ambassadeur van de Russische Federatie, dhr. Alexander Avreljevich Tokovinin en diens echtgenote.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Aartsbisschop Simon bedankte op het einde van de viering Metropoliet Athenagoras en zijn gezellen voor hun aanwezigheid en zei altijd te herinneren dat toen hij in Belgi\u00eb aankwam Metropoliet Panteleimon hem zei: <\/span>\u201cU bent erg jong, maar weet dat de jaren snel voorbijgaan\u201d<\/span><\/i>. Nu hij 70 jaar werd, beaamt Mgr. Simon dit gezegde.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Nadien nam Metropoliet Athenagoras het woord en feliciteerde Aartsbisschop Simon. Hij zei verder: <\/span>\u201cVandaag vieren we volgens de Juliaanse kalender het feest van de Heilige Catherina en uw verjaardag. De eerste orthodoxe parochie in de Benelux was toegewijd aan deze geliefde heilige. In deze parochie was er van het prille begin een samenwerking tussen Grieken en Russen. Dit is een voorbeeld dat we nooit mogen vergeten\u201d<\/span><\/i>. Daarop herinnerde Mgr. Simon dat ook in deze kerk toegewijd aan de Heilige Nikolaas er eertijds een samenwerking was tussen Grieken en Russen en dat zelfs de iconostase een geschenk was van Grieken (de familie Karatheodori-Petrokkokino). Metropoliet Athenagoras schonk een enkolpion (panagia) aan Aartsbisschop Simon hem gezondheid en vele jaren toewensend.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Nadien werden Mgr. Athenagoras, Mgr. Joachim en Archimandriet Philadelphos uitgenodigd voor koffie in het appartement van Mgr. Simon, waar ze in een hartelijke sfeer verder conversatie voerden. De verhouding van de metropoliet van Belgi\u00eb en Mgr. Simon is altijd hartelijk en oprecht geweest.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
