Meeting between the Vice-President of the European Commission Mr. Schinas and the Secretary General of the Office of the Orthodox Church to the EU Fr. Konstantinos Kenanidis

In a particularly cordial atmosphere, a working meeting was held in Brussels between the Vice-President of the European Commission, Mr. Margaritis Schinas, and the Secretary General of the Liaison Office of the Orthodox Church to the European Union, Archpriest Dr. Konstantinos Kenanidis.

After the warm welcome extended by the Vice-President of the European Commission to the Secretary-General of the Office of the Orthodox Church to the European Institutions, he wished him a successful and creative ministry in his new duties.

During the meeting Fr. Konstantinos had the opportunity to present the new operating framework, as well as the main axes of the Office’s direct actions. Mr. Schinas expressed the undivided support, contribution, and synergy, as well as to him and to the members of the Office, in the proposed actions.

The meeting established a consensus and the willingness to promote common actions, which will promote the priorities of both the Mother Church and those of the European Union, in the framework provided through the Article 17 of the Treaty of Lisbon.

The Liaison Office of the Orthodox Church to the European Union was created by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in 1994 and today functions under the chairmanship of His Eminence Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium.
