Backgrounder

The ‘Orthodox Metropolis of Benelux’ is the Orthodox Archdiocese for Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxemburg belonging to the Ecumenical Patriarchate. It has been created in 1969 by decision of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. It regroups about 40 parishes in its territory, with over 50 clergymen. Its Archbishop/Metropolitan is by law the official representative of the whole of the Orthodox Church in Belgium and Luxemburg and the president of the Orthodox Bishops’ Conference of the Benelux. It has a Theological Institute, a Youth Organization and several committees.

Orthodox Archdiocese of Belgium and Exarchate of the Netherlands and Luxemburg has a legal personality as asbl (NGO). The number of enterprise is: 0655.698.422
